The DS21348T+ from Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated) is a complete E1, T1, or J1 Line Interface Unit (LIU) suitable for both long-haul and short-haul trunk applications. This device operates on a 3.3V power supply and features internal software-selectable receive-side termination for 75Ω, 100Ω, or 120Ω.

 

Key features include a crystal-less jitter attenuator requiring only a 2.048MHz master clock for E1 and T1, with an option for 1.544MHz for T1. It generates appropriate line build-outs for E1 and DSX-1, and CSU line build-outs for T1. The DS21348T+ supports AMI, HDB3, and B8ZS encoding/decoding, and offers programmable monitor mode, loopbacks, and PRBS pattern generation/detection.

 

It provides an 8-bit parallel or serial interface with optional hardware mode, and supports muxed and nonmuxed parallel buses for Intel or Motorola. The device detects and generates Blue (AIS) alarms, features NRZ/Bipolar interface for Tx/Rx data I/O, and includes transmit open-circuit detection and receive carrier loss indication (G.775). The package is a 44-TQFP (10x10mm) with surface mount type.
