The DS2108S is a monolithic integrated circuit designed as a differential SCSI switchable terminator for High Voltage Differential (HVD) SCSI systems. It fully complies with SCSI, SCSI-2, and SCSI-3 standards, as well as the EIA RS-485 standard.
This device integrates eighteen 330-ohm and nine 150-ohm precise switched termination resistors. The termination resistors can be isolated from the SCSI bus under software or hardware control via the power-down pin (PD). In the powered-down mode, the DS2108S isolates the nine terminator blocks while adding only 6 pF capacitance to each signal line, which is well below the SCSI-3 allotment of 25 pF.
The DS2108S operates with SCSI signal voltages ranging from -7V to +12V, whether powered on or off. When active in a quiescent state, it typically consumes 56 mA, reducing to approximately 1 mA when powered down. The laser-trimmed termination resistors have a tolerance of ±5% over the full operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.
Packaged in a 24-pin SOIC surface mount package, the DS2108S offers a space-saving solution compared to conventional resistor SIPs. It requires a supply voltage between 4V and 5.25V.
The DS2108S provides differential termination for 9 pairs of signal lines and is fully compliant with SCSI, SCSI-2, and SCSI-3 standards.
