The DS18B20 is a digital thermometer from Analog Devices that provides precise Celsius temperature measurements. It communicates via a 1-Wire bus, requiring only a single data line for communication with a microprocessor. This simplifies distributed temperature sensing applications.
The sensor operates across a wide temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, with an accuracy of ±0.4°C over the range of -10°C to +70°C. The resolution is user-selectable from 9 to 12 bits. A key feature is its ability to derive power directly from the data line, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
Each DS18B20 possesses a unique 64-bit serial code, enabling multiple sensors to operate on the same 1-Wire bus. This makes it ideal for applications such as HVAC environmental controls, temperature monitoring systems in buildings or machinery, and process monitoring.
The DS18B20 is available in a TO-92-3 package, suitable for through-hole mounting. It also includes an alarm function with user-programmable upper and lower trigger points.
