The DS1683S+T&R from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated is an advanced elapsed-time recorder designed for applications requiring precise tracking of operational time and usage events. It incorporates a factory-calibrated, low-temperature-coefficient RC time base, eliminating the need for an external crystal and ensuring accuracy across varying temperatures. Data is maintained nonvolatily using EEPROM technology, negating the requirement for a backup power source.
This device detects and records both the total cumulative time the EVENT pin is held high and the number of falling edge transitions on the EVENT pin. It features a 32-bit nonvolatile elapsed time counter with quarter-second resolution, capable of accumulating up to 34 years of data. Additionally, a 16-bit nonvolatile event counter records the number of events. The ALARM pin provides user alerts when programmed time or event thresholds are met, with programmable polarity.
With an operating voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the DS1683S+T&R is suitable for rugged industrial environments. It communicates via an I2C-compatible interface and is housed in a compact 8-SOIC package, ideal for surface mounting. The device also includes 16 bytes of user EEPROM and a 4-byte password protection scheme for data security.
