The DS1306E is a serial alarm real-time clock IC from Analog Devices / Maxim Integrated, designed to manage all timekeeping functions. It counts seconds, minutes, hours, date, month, day of the week, and year, with leap-year compensation valid up to 2100. The device includes a 96-byte battery-backed NV RAM for data storage and features two time-of-day alarms.
This clock/calendar IC supports standard serial port interfaces with most microcontrollers, including Motorola SPI modes 1 and 3, and a standard 3-wire interface. It also offers burst mode for reading and writing successive addresses in clock/RAM. The DS1306E operates over a voltage range of 2.0V to 5.5V and provides optional 1Hz and 32.768kHz clock outputs.
Designed for a wide range of applications, the DS1306E is available in a compact 20-pin TSSOP package, minimizing required space. It supports an optional industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The device also features multiple power supply pins for easy addition of a battery for backup power, including an optional trickle charge output to the backup supply. Underwriters Laboratory (UL®) recognition is noted for this component.
