The DS1232LPS from Dallas Semiconductor is a low power MicroMonitor chip that provides essential monitoring functions for microprocessor systems. It actively monitors the power supply status, detecting out-of-tolerance conditions and generating a reset signal to halt the microprocessor. This ensures system stability during power failures and allows for a controlled restart once the power supply stabilizes.
In addition to power supply monitoring, the DS1232LPS includes a pushbutton reset input with debouncing and timing, guaranteeing a minimum active reset pulse width. It also features a watchdog timer that forces a reset if the strobe input is not stimulated within a set period, preventing software lock-ups. The device offers selectable power supply monitoring accuracy of 5% or 10% and operates over an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
Available in multiple package options including 8-pin DIP, 8-pin SOIC, µ-SOP, and an optional 16-pin SOIC, the DS1232LPS is suitable for various embedded system designs. Its low quiescent current of 50 µA makes it ideal for power-sensitive applications.
