The DS1221 by Analog Devices is a CMOS nonvolatile controller designed to provide data protection for CMOS RAMs during power loss. It monitors incoming power and automatically inhibits write operations when a power-out condition is detected, switching to battery power to maintain RAM data integrity. This controller features a 2-to-4 decoder, enabling the management of up to four CMOS RAM chips.
Key electrical specifications include an operating voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V and an operating temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. An optional industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C is also available. The DS1221 is available in a 16-pin DIP package, saving valuable PC board space.
This device is suitable for applications requiring data retention in volatile memory during power interruptions. Its design facilitates the creation of nonvolatile memory systems by combining it with standard CMOS RAMs and lithium batteries. An optional security feature can prevent unauthorized access to the memory space.
