The DS1216C from Dallas Semiconductor is an intelligent socket designed to convert standard CMOS static RAMs into non-volatile memory. It features a built-in CMOS watch function, an NV RAM controller, and an embedded lithium energy source to maintain time and date information, as well as retain RAM data.
This socket supports RAM densities from 64kb up to 256kb and operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. The watch function is transparent to RAM operations, and the device monitors VCC for out-of-tolerance conditions, automatically switching to the lithium energy source and enabling write protection to prevent data loss.
It is housed in a 28-pin DIP package and is suitable for through-hole mounting. The DS1216C provides a complete NV RAM solution, saving PC board space by integrating memory control and power management functions within the socket itself.
