DD-351

The MEPCO DD-351, officially known as USS Macdonough (DD-351), is a destroyer belonging to the Farragut class. Commissioned in March 1935, this vessel had a displacement of 1395 tons and was built at the Boston Navy Yard.

Throughout its service life, the DD-351 participated in numerous significant operations during World War II. It was present at Pearl Harbor during the surprise attack on December 7, 1941, and subsequently engaged in patrol and escort duties across the Pacific theater. Key engagements included support for the invasion of Guadalcanal and Tulagi, participation in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons, and operations in the Aleutian Islands campaign.

The destroyer was involved in the invasions of Makin and the Marshall Islands, and contributed to sinking enemy submarines RO-40 and RO-45. Its duties extended to shore bombardment, anti-submarine patrols, escorting carrier task forces, and shepherding transports during landings like the Leyte landings.

After an overhaul in 1945, the DD-351 served as a radar picket ship and escort. It returned to the United States in September 1945 and was decommissioned in October 1945, later being sold for scrapping in December 1946.
