The 3M D89140-0131HK is a 40-position IDC ribbon cable socket part of the D891 series. It is designed for terminating 26-28 AWG stranded ribbon cable with a 0.050" pitch cable. The connector features a free-hanging, in-line mounting style and uses IDC termination. Contacts are female sockets with phosphor bronze base, underplated with nickel, and finished with 15µin (0.38µm) gold plating for reliable conductivity.
This socket has a 2.54mm (0.100") pitch and row spacing. It includes features such as feed through and polarizing key for proper alignment. The housing is made of gray glass-filled polyester with a flammability rating of UL94 V-0. Electrical ratings include insulation resistance greater than 1 x 10⁹ ohms at 500V DC and a withstanding voltage of 1000V RMS at sea level. Current ratings vary depending on wire gauge and number of powered lines: up to 3.5A per line for 26 AWG single line powered.
Applications include internal wiring in electronic equipment, computer peripherals, and industrial controls where reliable IDC connections are required. The connector is supplied in preassembled bulk pack for easy loading. Optional accessories such as strain relief and pull tabs are available separately.
