The Texas Instruments CD3268A0YZPR is an audio interface transmitter compatible with specially enabled audio interfaces, such as those found in iPhones and iPads. This component supports two distinct operating modes: button mode and tone mode.
In button mode, the device does not support microphone input. Instead, it passes a DC voltage from an external switch-resistor network connected to the REM pin to the MIC pin for external voltage measurement. In tone mode, the CD3268A0YZPR supports microphone functionality and detects button presses via an external switch-resistor network on the REM pin. It generates ultrasonic signals, output on the TONE pin, which are superimposed on the MICBIAS line to control audio functions.
Key electrical characteristics include a low quiescent current, drawing only 3µA in button mode (microphone not in use) and 110µA in tone mode (microphone in use). The device operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. It features ESD protection with a Human Body Model rating of 2000V and a Charged Device Model rating of 500V. The CD3268A0YZPR is housed in a miniature DSBGA (YZP) package with a footprint of 2.1875 mm² and is designed for surface mount applications.
This transmitter can also provide functionality to control or bias an external MEMS microphone module during tone mode operation. The selection between button and tone mode is determined by the input DC bias level provided on the MIC pin.
