The BZW50-18 is a unidirectional transient voltage suppression (TVS) diode manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits from voltage transients induced by lightning, inductive load switching, and electrostatic discharge. The device features a reverse standoff voltage of 18V and a clamping voltage of 41.5V, ensuring that downstream components are not exposed to damaging overvoltage conditions.
With a peak pulse power rating of 5000W (5kW) and a peak pulse current capability of 1446A (8/20µs waveform), the BZW50-18 can handle high-energy transients. The diode has a capacitance of 11500pF at 1MHz, which may be a consideration for high-frequency applications. It is a Zener-based TVS diode with a single unidirectional channel and does not provide power line protection.
