The BQ771807DPJR from Texas Instruments is an integrated circuit designed for overvoltage protection in Li-Ion battery pack systems. It independently monitors each cell for overvoltage conditions and incorporates an internal delay timer. Upon detecting an overvoltage event, the timer initiates, and once expired, the output is triggered to its active state. This device supports 2, 3, 4, and 5-series cell configurations.
Key features include high-accuracy overvoltage protection with a typical tolerance of ±10 mV and low power consumption, drawing approximately 1 µA when cell voltage is below the protection threshold. The IC also exhibits low leakage current per cell input, less than 100 nA. It is supplied in a compact 8-pin WSON package, suitable for surface mounting.
This IC is functional safety-capable, with documentation available to assist in designing functional safety systems. The BQ7718 family also offers a Customer Test Mode (CTM) for faster production-line testing by reducing the delay time. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.
