The Texas Instruments BQ4050RSMT is a Compensated End-of-Discharge Voltage (CEDV) technology-based battery fuel gauge and protection solution. Designed for 1-series to 4-series cell Li-Ion battery packs, it enables autonomous charger control and cell balancing.
This highly integrated IC provides a fully integrated pack-based solution with a flash-programmable RISC CPU. Key features include high-side protection, cell balancing with internal bypass, diagnostic lifetime data monitoring, and a black box recorder for failure analysis. It offers a full array of programmable protection features for over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature conditions.
The BQ4050RSMT supports JEITA charge algorithms and smart charging. Its analog front end features two independent ADCs for simultaneous current and voltage sampling, coupled with a high-accuracy Coulomb counter. Communication is handled via a 100-KHz SMBus v1.1 interface, with an alternate 400-KHz mode available. For enhanced security, it includes an SHA-1 authentication responder.
Packaged in a compact 32-pin VQFN (RSM) with a 4x4mm body, the BQ4050RSMT is designed for surface mount applications. It operates across a wide temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
