The Texas Instruments BQ4050RSMR is a multi-function battery management IC designed for 1- to 4-series Lithium Ion and Polymer battery packs. It incorporates Compensated End-of-Discharge Voltage (CEDV) technology for accurate gas gauging and autonomous charger control.
Key features include high-side N-CH FET drive for serial bus communication during faults, internal cell balancing to optimize battery health, and a diagnostic lifetime data monitor. The device offers programmable protection for voltage, current, and temperature, along with JEITA charge algorithms for smart charging. It includes an analog front end with two ADCs for simultaneous current and voltage sampling, and a high-accuracy Coulomb counter with an input offset error of less than 1 μV typical.
The BQ4050RSMR communicates via a 100-KHz SMBus v1.1 interface, with an alternate 400-KHz mode available for programming and data access. It also supports SHA-1 authentication for enhanced battery pack security. The device is housed in a compact 32-pin VQFN package.
