The BQ29200DRBR from Texas Instruments is a specialized integrated circuit for secondary overvoltage protection in 2-series cell lithium-ion battery packs. It incorporates a high-accuracy precision overvoltage detection circuit and automatic cell imbalance correction capabilities.
The device compares the voltage of each cell against an internal reference. If an overvoltage condition is detected in either cell, the OUT pin changes state after a delay determined by an external capacitor. The BQ29200DRBR also features automatic cell imbalance correction, where the cell with the higher voltage is loaded with a small balancing current until the voltages are equalized.
Key features include external cell balancing mode support, external capacitor-controlled delay timer, and external resistor-controlled cell balance current. It operates with low power consumption, typically less than 3 µA when below the overvoltage protection threshold.
