The Texas Instruments BQ27520YZFR-G1 is a system-side battery fuel gauge IC designed for single-cell Li-Ion battery packs. It employs the patented Impedance Track™ algorithm to provide accurate fuel gauging, including state of charge (SOC), remaining capacity, and state of health (SOH).
This microcontroller peripheral resides on the system's main board and connects using PACK+, PACK–, and Thermistor terminals. It features a 400-kHz I2C interface for communication with the host microcontroller. The device includes an internal temperature sensor for battery temperature reporting and supports a low-value sense resistor range of 5 mΩ to 20 mΩ.
The BQ27520YZFR-G1 is housed in a compact 15-pin NanoFree™ (CSP) or 15-UFBGA, DSBGA package, making it suitable for space-constrained applications. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C and is designed for surface mount installation.
Key applications include smartphones, PDAs, digital cameras, handheld terminals, and MP3 players, where accurate battery monitoring is crucial for predicting time-to-empty and managing battery aging.
