The Texas Instruments BQ27426YZFT is a system-side battery fuel gauge designed for single-cell Li-Ion applications. It employs the patented Impedance Track algorithm to provide accurate battery information such as remaining capacity, state-of-charge, and battery voltage. This gauge requires minimal configuration and firmware development, enabling quick system bring-up.
Key features include ultra-low power consumption in sleep mode (9 µA) and normal mode (50 µA), supporting embedded or removable batteries. It powers directly from the battery with an integrated LDO and supports a low-value external sense resistor (10 mΩ). The device communicates via a 400-kHz I2C serial interface and offers configurable SOC interrupts or battery low digital output warnings.
With three selectable pre-programmed profiles for 4.2-V, 4.35-V, and 4.4-V cells, the BQ27426 automatically adjusts for battery aging, self-discharge, temperature, and rate changes, while also estimating battery state-of-health. It is housed in a compact 9-DSBGA package measuring 1.62 mm x 1.58 mm, making it suitable for space-constrained applications.
Applications include smartphones, feature phones, tablets, wearables, building automation, portable medical/industrial handsets, portable audio devices, and gaming consoles.
