The BQ24616RGER from Texas Instruments is a JEITA guideline-compatible, stand-alone, synchronous switched-mode battery charge controller designed for Li-ion or Li-Polymer battery packs. It supports 1 to 6 battery cells with a VCC input operating range of 5 V to 28 V.
This device offers high-accuracy voltage and current regulation, with ±0.5% charge voltage accuracy and ±3% charge current accuracy. It can handle up to 10A of charge current and adapter current. The charger operates in three phases: preconditioning, constant current, and constant voltage, with termination when current reaches a user-selectable minimum level. A programmable charge timer provides safety backup.
The BQ24616RGER integrates features like automatic system power selection from adapter or battery, internal loop compensation, and internal soft-start. Safety protections include input overvoltage, battery detection, reverse protection, programmable safety timer, charge overcurrent, battery short, battery overvoltage, and thermal shutdown.
