The Texas Instruments BQ24400PWR is a programmable, monolithic IC for fast-charge management of nickel cadmium (NiCd) and nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries in single or multi-cell applications. This switch-mode buck controller operates with an input voltage range of 4V to 6V and can deliver a maximum charge current of 2A.
Key features include battery temperature monitoring for hot/cold profiles, pre-charge qualification, and fast-charge termination by peak voltage, maximum temperature, and maximum charge time. It also offers selectable top-off mode for maximum NiMH capacity and programmable trickle-charge mode for reviving deeply discharged batteries.
