The BQ24314ADSGR from Texas Instruments is a highly integrated circuit (IC) designed to provide protection for Li-ion batteries against failures in the charging circuit. This device continuously monitors input voltage, input current, and battery voltage.

 

In the event of an input overvoltage condition, the BQ24314ADSGR immediately removes power from the charging circuit by disabling an internal switch. For overcurrent conditions, it limits the system current to a user-programmable threshold. If the overcurrent persists, the device switches off the pass element after a blanking period. It also monitors its own die temperature and shuts down if it exceeds 140°C.

 

The BQ24314ADSGR offers rapid response in less than 1 µs for input overvoltage protection. It supports a maximum input voltage of 30 V and up to 1.5-A input current. The device is robust against false triggering due to current transients and includes status indication for fault conditions. It is available in a space-saving 8-lead 2 mm × 2 mm WSON package, suitable for surface mounting.

 

This IC is ideal for charger front-end protection applications, ensuring the safety and longevity of Li-ion battery systems.
