The BQ20Z80DBT from Texas Instruments is an SBS 1.1-compliant gas gauge integrated circuit that utilizes patented Impedance Track technology for accurate battery charge monitoring in Li-ion and Li-polymer battery packs. This IC is designed for battery-pack or in-system installation, monitoring critical parameters such as capacity change, battery impedance, and open-circuit voltage.
Key electrical specifications include an SMBus interface and fault protection features covering over current, over temperature, over/under voltage, and short circuits. It operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The device boasts high-resolution charge flow measurement with better than 0.65 nVh resolution and self-calibrating offset error less than 1 µV.
Packaged in a 38-pin TSSOP, the BQ20Z80DBT is suitable for surface mount applications. It supports the Smart Battery Specification (SBS) V1.1 and can work with the bq29312A Analog Front-End (AFE) protection IC for a complete pack electronics solution. Applications include notebook PCs, medical and test equipment, and portable instrumentation.
