The BQ2050SN-D119 from Texas Instruments is a Lithium Ion gas gauge IC intended for battery-pack or in-system installation to maintain an accurate record of available battery capacity. It supports 2-4 series Li-Ion/Li-Polymer cells and offers a battery capacity range from 500 mAh to 6000 mAh.
This IC monitors voltage drop across a sense resistor to determine charge and discharge activity, with compensations for battery temperature and rate. It features a 1-wire (DQ) communication interface and can provide external capacity indication via LEDs. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
Designed for pack integration, the BQ2050SN-D119 is housed in a 16-SOIC package with surface mount capability. Its typical operating current is 120µA, enabling implementations in compact designs. Measurements are compensated for current and temperature, and self-discharge is compensated using an internal temperature sensor.
