The BQ2018SN-E1TR from Texas Instruments is a low-cost, multi-chemistry charge/discharge counter peripheral designed for battery monitoring applications. It works in conjunction with an intelligent host controller to provide state-of-charge information for rechargeable batteries.
This IC measures the voltage drop across a low-value series sense resistor, enabling it to resolve signals less than 12.5uV. It supports battery capacities ranging from 1000 mAh to 4500 mAh and is compatible with Lead Acid, Li-Ion/Li-Polymer, NiCd, and NiMH chemistries. The device features a single-wire HDQ communication interface and operates with low current consumption, less than 80uA in operating mode and less than 10uA in sleep mode.
Packaged in an 8-pin SOIC or TSSOP, the BQ2018SN-E1TR is suitable for integration into battery packs. It includes an internal temperature sensor for self-discharge estimation and 1024 bits of NVRAM for configuration. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 70°C.
Note: This product is in the process of being discontinued. New designs should consider an alternate product.
