The Texas Instruments BQ2003SG4 is a switch-mode buck battery charger IC designed for fast charging and conditioning of nickel cadmium (NiCd) or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. It supports 1 to 4 series cells and operates with an input voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V, with an absolute maximum input voltage of 7V. The device offers a maximum charge current of 2A.
Key features include battery temperature monitoring with hot/cold profile detection, and charge termination based on voltage, maximum voltage, maximum temperature, and maximum time. It also provides optional top-off charging. The control interface is standalone and RC-settable, with direct LED outputs for battery and charge status indication. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.
This IC is suitable for integration into systems or use as a stand-alone charger. It features pre-charge qualification based on temperature and voltage. The BQ2003SG4 is available in a 16-SOIC package and is surface-mountable.
Note: This product is in the process of being discontinued. New designs should consider an alternate product.
