The BQ2003S-NTR is a versatile switch-mode battery charger IC from Texas Instruments, specifically designed for the fast charge and conditioning of nickel cadmium (NiCd) or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. It supports battery configurations of 1 to 4 series cells and offers a maximum charge current of 2A.
This IC features a hysteretic PWM switch-mode current regulation and can be used as a stand-alone charger or integrated into larger systems. Key electrical specifications include an input voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V, with an absolute maximum input voltage of 7V. The battery charge voltage ranges from 0V to 5.5V. It also includes features like BAT temperature thermistor monitoring for hot/cold profile management and direct LED outputs for charge status indication.
The BQ2003S-NTR provides comprehensive fast-charge termination by monitoring voltage, maximum voltage, maximum temperature, and maximum time, with an optional top-off charge capability. It is available in SOIC (DW) and PDIP (N) packages.
This product is in the process of being discontinued, and new designs should consider an alternate product such as the BQ25172.
