The BQ2003S-NTR from Texas Instruments is a monolithic CMOS integrated circuit designed for fast charging and conditioning of nickel cadmium or nickel-metal hydride batteries. It provides comprehensive fast charge control functions along with high-speed switching power control circuitry.
This IC supports switch-mode buck topology and operates with an input voltage range of 4.5V to 5.5V, with an absolute maximum of 7V. It can charge batteries with 1 to 4 series cells and supports NiCd and NiMH chemistries. The maximum charge current is 2A. Key features include battery temperature thermistor monitoring for hot/cold profiles and direct LED outputs for battery and charge status indication.
Fast-charge termination is managed by V, maximum voltage, maximum temperature, and maximum time, with an optional top-off charge. The device can be used as a stand-alone charger or integrated into larger systems. It supports pre-charge qualification of temperature and voltage, and switch-activated discharge-before-charge for battery conditioning and capacity determination.
The BQ2003S-NTR is available in a 16-SOIC surface mount package. Its operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C.
