The Texas Instruments BQ2002C is a low-cost CMOS battery-charge controller designed for reliable fast charging and termination of Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) and Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. This IC integrates fast charge with pulsed-trickle control, making it suitable for stand-alone or system-integrated chargers.
Key features include termination by negative delta voltage (-∆V), maximum voltage, maximum temperature, and maximum time, as well as peak voltage detection (PVD). The BQ2002C provides a direct LED output to display charge status and includes an internal band-gap voltage reference. It supports selectable pulse-trickle charge rates and a low-power mode for reduced system consumption.
The device is available in an 8-pin DIP or 150-mil SOIC package. It operates with a supply voltage range of 4V to 6V (absolute maximum 7V) and supports battery charge voltages from 0V to 6V. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C. Fast charge can be inhibited using the INH pin, and the IC can resume operation when the inhibit is removed.
