BMA223

The Bosch BMA223 is an 8-bit, digital, triaxial acceleration sensor for consumer applications, capable of measuring acceleration along three perpendicular axes. It features a compact 12-LGA package with a 2mm x 2mm footprint and a height of 0.95mm, making it suitable for space-constrained designs.

This sensor supports selectable acceleration ranges of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, and ±16g, with programmable low-pass filter bandwidths from 1kHz down to less than 8Hz. It offers digital interfaces including SPI (4-wire and 3-wire) and I2C, along with two interrupt pins. The operating voltage range is from 1.2V to 3.6V, and it operates within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.

Key features include an on-chip FIFO buffer with a depth of 32 frames and an intelligent on-chip interrupt controller for motion-triggered signal generation. This controller supports various detection modes such as new data, any-motion, tap sensing, orientation recognition, flat detection, low-g/high-g detection, and no-motion detection. Its ultra-low power consumption and advanced system power management capabilities make it ideal for mobile applications.

The BMA223 is commonly used in applications like display profile switching, menu scrolling, gaming, pedometer functions, free-fall detection, and e-compass tilt compensation. Its surface mount capability and small package size facilitate integration into various electronic devices.
