The Broadcom BCM8727BIFBG is a dual-channel 10-GbE SFI-to-XAUI transceiver designed for high-density Ethernet switching and routing platforms, and next-generation blade servers. It features integrated Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) and supports SFP+ SR, LR, and LRM optical interfaces, as well as direct attached copper up to 15 meters.
This transceiver operates at a data rate of 10.3125 Gbps for the serial interface and 3.125 Gbps for the 4-lane XAUI interface. It requires a 1.0V core supply and a 3.3V I/O supply, with a power dissipation of 2.4W. The device supports multirate 10 GbE and 1 GbE operation for legacy interfaces.
Packaged in a compact 19 mm x 19 mm BGA package with a 1-mm ball pitch, the BCM8727BIFBG utilizes a single-reference clock input, enabling the use of low-cost 156.25 MHz oscillators. It includes built-in self-test (BIST) capabilities on its serial and XAUI interfaces and supports module present detection.
The BCM8727BIFBG is compliant with IEEE 802.3ae Clause 45 for its MDIO interface and supports XFP/XFI interfaces. Its LRM mode supports up to 300m of Multimode Fiber (MMF), exceeding the IEEE 802.3aq standard.
