The Broadcom BCM8011A2KPF is a 10Gb Ethernet transceiver chip that extends Ethernet capabilities into the Wide Area Network (WAN). It provides an aggregate bandwidth of 10-Gbps full-duplex.
The chip integrates four channels of the Broadcom FusionCoreTM, a high-performance mixed-signal transceiver core capable of transmitting and receiving data at 3.125 Gigabits per second (Gbps) per channel. It supports Broadcom’s EyeOpenerTM adaptive equalizer, which enhances cable reach and compensates for electrical imperfections in copper traces and connectors.
Key features include integrated PLL and Clock and Data Recovery for individual channel locking, low transmit jitter (< 3 ps RMS), and a 32-bit parallel interface compatible with SSTL_2/HSTL specifications. The BCM8011A2KPF supports the IEEE 802.3ae standards for 10 Gigabit attachment unit (XAUI) and 10 Gigabit media independent interface (XGMII).
This transceiver is implemented in a 0.18µ standard CMOS process technology and is available in a 324-pin FBGA package measuring 19 mm x 19 mm. It operates with 1.8V and 2.5V supplies and has a nominal power consumption of 2.5W.
