The Broadcom BCM5389KFB is an eighth-generation 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch on a chip, designed for SOHO and subnetwork applications. It integrates nine MACs with support for 9KB jumbo frames, eight SGMII/SerDes interfaces, and a 128KB packet buffer memory. The device features a non-blocking 9-Gigabit Ethernet fully integrated switch fabric and an SPI interface for easy setup and managed operation.
Key specifications include support for 4k 802.1Q or port-based VLANs, up to 4000 unicast MAC addresses, and four 802.1p QoS priority queues. The switch supports full-duplex (802.3x) and half-duplex flow control, as well as Spanning Tree and Rapid Spanning Tree protocols. Port-based rate control with 64kbps granularity is also included.
The device is built on a low-power 0.13 µm CMOS core with a 1.2V supply voltage and maximum power dissipation under 1.5W, enabling fanless operation. It is housed in a 256-pin FBGA package measuring 17mm x 17mm for surface mount assembly.
