The ABB/Baldor BC138 is a versatile SCR DC speed control suitable for applications requiring variable speed and constant torque, such as conveyors, mixers, and packaging machinery.
This control features a full-wave SCR design with a free-wheeling diode (NEMA type K) and a field power supply compatible with both shunt wound DC motors and permanent magnet motors. It offers adjustable acceleration, deceleration, current limit, IR compensation, minimum speed, and maximum speed settings. For user convenience, it includes a current limit indicating LED and a 5K speed control potentiometer.
Built with protection in mind, the BC138 incorporates an anti-demagnetization circuit to safeguard PM motors and the SCR power bridge against direct shorts. A noise rejection circuit is also integrated to prevent false starts and protect the SCRs. The unit is recognized by UL and cUL.
Specifications include a maximum horsepower rating of 1/3 HP, an output amperage of 3.5A, a 115 VAC input voltage, and a 0-90 VDC output voltage. The enclosure is NEMA 1 rated, and it does not have an integrated heat sink.
