The BBY40 is a variable capacitance diode (varactor) designed for VHF tuning applications up to 160 MHz. It features a high capacitance ratio of 6.5 (C3/C25) and excellent linearity, making it suitable for electronic tuning in VHF television tuners. Key electrical characteristics include a maximum reverse voltage of 30V, maximum continuous forward current of 20mA, and a low reverse current of 10 nA at 28V. The diode has a series resistance of 0.7 Ω at 200 MHz. Capacitance values are 26 pF typical at 3V and 4.3 to 6 pF at 25V. The device is housed in a small plastic SOT-23 surface-mount package (also known as TO-236-3, SC-59, SOT-23-3) with a marking code of S2. It operates over a junction temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and can be stored from -55°C to +150°C. The BBY40 is RoHS3 compliant and REACH unaffected, with MSL level 1 (unlimited).
