The General Instrument AY-5-2376 is a versatile keyboard encoder integrated circuit designed for complete keyboard assembly. It utilizes a 2376-bit Read Only Memory (ROM) and incorporates all necessary logic to encode single pole single throw keyboard closures into a usable 9-bit code.
This encoder features outputs directly compatible with TTL/DTL or MOS logic arrays, eliminating the need for special interface components. Key operational features include two-key rollover, N-key lockout, and programmable coding via a single mask change. It also includes a self-contained oscillator circuit and an externally controlled delay network to mitigate contact bounce effects.
The AY-5-2376 is fabricated using MTNS technology and contains 2942 P-channel enhancement mode transistors on a single monolithic chip. Input and output terminals are protected against static charges, and the entire circuit is protected by a layer of glass passivation. External controls are provided for output polarity and parity selection (odd or even).
Packaged in a 40-lead dual in-line package, the AY-5-2376 is suitable for various keyboard encoding applications where reliable and efficient signal processing is required.
