The ATTINY40-XU is a low-power, high-performance 8-bit AVR microcontroller from Microchip Technology. It features 4KB of in-system programmable Flash memory, 256 bytes of internal SRAM, and 18 programmable I/O lines. The device operates over a supply voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and supports clock speeds up to 12 MHz, delivering up to 12 MIPS throughput.
Key peripherals include one 8-bit timer/counter with two PWM channels, one 8/16-bit timer/counter, a 10-bit ADC with 12 single-ended channels, an analog comparator, and serial interfaces (SPI and TWI/I²C). The microcontroller also features a programmable watchdog timer, brown-out detection, power-on reset, and multiple low-power modes including idle, ADC noise reduction, standby, and power-down.
The device is housed in a 20-pin TSSOP package with a gull-wing lead style and 0.65 mm lead pitch, suitable for surface-mount assembly. It is designed for industrial temperature range (-40°C to 85°C) and offers low power consumption: 200 µA active at 1 MHz and 1.8V, 25 µA idle, and less than 0.1 µA in power-down mode. Flash endurance is rated at 10,000 write/erase cycles with data retention of 20 years at 85°C and 100 years at 25°C.
