The ATMEGA8U2-AU is an 8-bit AVR microcontroller from Microchip Technology, part of the ATmega8U2 series. It features the high-performance AVR RISC architecture with 125 instructions, most of which execute in a single clock cycle, achieving up to 16 MIPS throughput at 16 MHz.
Memory includes 8KB of in-system self-programmable Flash, 512B of SRAM, and 512B of EEPROM with data retention of 100 years at 25°C. The integrated USB 2.0 full-speed device module complies with USB Specification Rev 2.0 and includes a 176-byte DPRAM for endpoint memory allocation, supporting up to 4 programmable endpoints with bulk, interrupt, and isochronous transfers. Additional peripherals include one 8-bit timer/counter with PWM, one 16-bit timer/counter, USART with SPI master mode, SPI, watchdog timer, and analog comparator.
Operating from a supply voltage of 2.7V to 5.5V and over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the device uses an internal calibrated oscillator. The package is a 32-lead TQFP (7x7 mm) with surface mount mounting, providing 22 general-purpose I/O pins. On-chip debug interface (debugWIRE) is available for development.
Typical applications include USB-to-serial bridges, human interface devices, industrial control, and low-power embedded systems requiring USB connectivity.
