The ATMEGA8A-MU is an 8-bit AVR microcontroller from Atmel (now Microchip Technology) based on the AVR RISC architecture. It features 8KB of in-system self-programmable Flash memory, 1KB internal SRAM, and 512B EEPROM, with high endurance: 10,000 write/erase cycles for Flash and 100,000 for EEPROM, and data retention of 20 years at 85°C or 100 years at 25°C. The device operates at clock speeds up to 16 MHz, delivering up to 16 MIPS throughput. It includes a rich set of peripherals: two 8-bit and one 16-bit timer/counter, three PWM channels, an 8-channel 10-bit ADC (in VQFN package), and serial interfaces including I²C, SPI, and UART/USART. The microcontroller also features a brown-out detect/reset, power-on reset, programmable watchdog timer, and internal oscillator. The ATMEGA8A-MU is supplied in a 32-VFQFN exposed pad package (32-VQFN 5x5 mm) with surface mount mounting. It operates over a wide voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and an industrial temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. Typical power consumption is 3.6 mA at 4 MHz active mode, 1.0 mA in idle, and 0.5 µA in power-down mode, making it suitable for low-power applications. This microcontroller is ideal for embedded control applications requiring moderate processing power and a compact footprint.
