AR9280-AL1A

The Atheros AR9280-AL1A is an integrated, dual-band wireless network solution designed for PCIe applications. Operating on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands, it supports the 802.11n Wi-Fi standard. This chip utilizes a 2x2 MIMO configuration, offering enhanced performance and connectivity. It also features a Dynamic MIMO Power Save function that allows it to downshift to a 1x1 MIMO configuration when needed.

The AR9280-AL1A is presented in a Half-Mini Card form factor, noted for its compact size which is significantly smaller than competing 11n solutions. This makes it suitable for integration into mainstream-priced PC markets and other devices where space is a constraint. The dual-band capability ensures universal connectivity to various 802.11 networks, including legacy 802.11b/g and 802.11a/g standards. The 5 GHz band is particularly beneficial for high-bandwidth, latency-sensitive applications such as HD video streaming and wireless VoIP due to its reduced interference.
