The Sensata APL/UPL series, including the APL1-4293-3, comprises hydraulic magnetic circuit protectors designed for reliable power switching, circuit protection, and control. This specific model is a single-pole unit with a lever actuator and is intended for panel mounting.
These protectors function similarly to ON-OFF switches under normal load conditions. Upon detecting an overload, an internal mechanism trips, opening the contacts and forcibly returning the handle to the OFF position. The "trip free" design ensures the internal contacts will not remain closed during an overload, even if the handle is held in the ON position.
It is important to note that the APL/UPL series is a legacy product line. Sensata Technologies is no longer accepting new design-in orders for these components and recommends the Airpax™ IAL series for new designs. While designed for industrial, military, and information processing applications, the APL/UPL is suitable for any situation requiring precise operation.
Most versions of the APL family are recognized by UL per UL STD. 1077 as supplementary protectors and certified by CSA per CSA STD. C22.2–No. 235 as supplementary protectors.
