The Sensata APL/UPL series, including the APL1-31856-5, are hydraulic magnetic circuit protectors designed for reliable, low-cost power switching, circuit protection, and control. The APL1-31856-5 features a single pole configuration with lever actuation for manual operation, similar to an ON-OFF switch. Upon detecting an overload, the internal mechanism trips, opening the contacts and forcibly returning the handle to the OFF position. This 'trip-free' design ensures the internal contacts cannot remain closed under overload conditions, even if the handle is held in the ON position.
