AFE58JD28ZAV Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The AFE58JD28ZAV is a 16-channel analog front end (AFE) designed for ultrasound imaging systems. It integrates a complete signal chain optimized for time-gain compensation (TGC) and continuous wave (CW) Doppler modes, including a low-noise amplifier (LNA), voltage-controlled attenuator (VCAT), programmable gain amplifier (PGA), low-pass filter (LPF), analog-to-digital converter (ADC), digital I/Q demodulator, and passive CW mixer.

Key electrical specifications include power consumption of 102 mW per channel in TGC mode and 63 mW per channel in CW mode. Input-referred noise is 0.8 nV/√Hz. The ADC supports two modes: 14-bit at 65 MSPS with 75 dBFS SNR, or 12-bit at 80 MSPS with 72 dBFS SNR. The LNA offers programmable gains of 21 dB, 18 dB, and 15 dB. The VCAT provides 0 dB to 36 dB attenuation, and the PGA covers 18 dB to 27 dB in 3 dB steps. The 3rd-order linear-phase LPF has a cutoff frequency adjustable from 10 MHz to 30 MHz. Device-to-device gain matching is ±0.4 dB typical.

Digital interface options include LVDS with data rates up to 1 Gbps and JESD204B (subclass 0, 1, 2) up to 5 Gbps. The on-chip RAM stores 32 preset profiles for flexible configuration. The CW path features λ/16 phase resolution and low close-in phase noise of -159 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset from a 2.5 MHz carrier. A digital decimation filter with fractional M from 1 to 63 in 0.25 steps reduces data throughput.

The device is housed in a 289-ball NFBGA package measuring 15 mm × 15 mm, surface mount. Operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C, and supply voltage is 3.15 V to 3.6 V.
