AFE5807ZCF Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The AFE5807ZCF is a fully integrated 8-channel analog front end (AFE) from Texas Instruments, designed for ultrasound imaging applications. It integrates a low-noise amplifier (LNA) with programmable gain of 24/18/12 dB, a 40 dB voltage-controlled attenuator (VCAT), a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) with 24/30 dB range, a third-order linear phase low-pass filter (LPF) with cutoff frequencies of 10/15/20/30 MHz, and a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) operating at up to 80 MSPS.

The device offers noise/power optimization modes: 117 mW per channel at 1.05 nV/√Hz (low noise mode) and 159 mW per channel at 0.75 nV/√Hz (low power mode) at 80 MSPS. A continuous wave (CW) mode consumes 80 mW per channel. The ADC achieves 70 dBFS SNR at 80 MSPS. The input referred noise is 0.63/0.7/0.9 nV/√Hz in low noise mode and 0.99/1.0/1.05 nV/√Hz in low power mode.

The AFE5807ZCF includes a passive mixer for continuous wave Doppler (CWD) with low close-in phase noise of -156 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset from a 2.5 MHz carrier. It supports 16X, 8X, 4X, and 1X CW clocks with 12 dB suppression on 3rd and 5th harmonics. The device is supplied in a 135-ball NFBGA package (15 mm × 9 mm) for surface mount assembly.

Typical applications include medical ultrasound imaging and nondestructive evaluation equipment. The device operates over a temperature range of 0 to 85 °C and requires multiple supply voltages: 1.7V–1.9V, 3.15V–3.6V, and 5V.
