AFE4300PN Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The AFE4300PN is a low-cost analog front-end integrating two separate signal chains: one for weight-scale (WS) measurement and one for body composition measurement (BCM) analysis. A 16-bit, 860-SPS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is multiplexed between both chains. The weight measurement chain includes an instrumentation amplifier with gain set by an external resistor, followed by a 6-bit DAC for offset correction, and an on-chip 1.7V load cell excitation voltage for ratiometric measurement. Input-referred noise is 68 nVrms (0.1 Hz to 2 Hz) with best-fit linearity of 0.01% of full-scale.

The body composition front-end supports up to three tetra-polar complex impedance measurements, using a 6-bit, 1-MSPS sine-wave generation DAC and a 247.5 µArms ±20% excitation source. Measurement RMS noise is 0.1 Ω in a 2 Hz bandwidth. The ADC operates with a supply current of 110 µA; total supply current for weight-scale measurement is 540 µA and for body composition measurement is 970 µA.

The device operates from a supply voltage range of 2V to 3.6V and over an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. It is housed in an 80-LQFP package (12x12 mm) with surface mount mounting. The digital interface is SPI, making it easy to connect to microcontrollers.
