AFE1115E

The Burr-Brown AFE1115E is an Analog Front End (AFE) IC designed to reduce the size and cost of HDSL (High bit rate Digital Subscriber Line) and MDSL systems. It provides all the active analog circuitry required to interface an HDSL digital signal processor with an external compromise hybrid and a HDSL line transformer.

This device features a scalable data rate, allowing operation over a range of data rates from 196kbps to 1.168Mbps. The transmit and receive filter responses automatically adjust with clock frequency. The AFE1115E includes transmit and receive sections, a VCXO (Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator) control DAC, and VCXO circuitry. The transmit section generates, filters, and buffers outgoing 2B1Q data, while the receive section filters and digitizes symbol data received on the telephone line.

Key electrical specifications include 14-bit resolution, a programmable gain with three settings (-3dB, 3dB, and 9dB), and an output data rate up to 584 kHz. The transmit clock rate also supports up to 584 kHz. The IC operates on a single 5V supply for the analog circuitry, while the digital circuitry can be connected to a supply from 3.3V to 5V. It has a power dissipation of 300mW.

The AFE1115E is housed in a compact 56-pin SSOP package, suitable for surface mounting. Its design simplifies the connection between digital signal processors and line interfaces in high-speed digital subscriber line applications.
