The AFE031AIRGZT from Texas Instruments is a 1-channel, 10-bit powerline communications (PLC) analog front end (AFE) designed for driving low-impedance lines. It supports capacitive- or transformer-coupled connections to the powerline and can operate under the control of a DSP or microcontroller. The device is ideal for PLC systems operating in CENELEC bands and supports PRIME, G3, FSK, S-FSK, and OFDM signaling.

Electrically, the AFE operates from a total supply voltage of 7V to 26V and a digital supply of 3V to 3.6V. It provides a typical output current of 1.5A and features a typical gain bandwidth product of 0.67MHz, a slew rate of 19V/µs, and quiescent current of 49mA per channel. The FET architecture and integrated powerline driver incorporate thermal and overcurrent protection, with an adjustable current limit and shutdown capability.
