The ADUM5401ARWZ by Analog Devices Inc. is a quad-channel digital isolator that incorporates an integrated, isolated DC-to-DC converter, known as isoPower. This technology allows for up to 500 mW of regulated, isolated power output, eliminating the need for a separate isolated DC-to-DC converter in low-power designs. It provides four independent isolation channels with data rates up to 25 Mbps (NRZ).
The device offers 2.5 kV rms isolation per UL 1577 and operates at high common-mode transient immunity of greater than 25 kV/µs. It supports regulated output voltages of 3.3 V or 5.0 V from a 5.0 V input supply, or 3.3 V from a 3.3 V supply. The operating temperature range is up to 105°C maximum.
Packaged in a 16-lead SOIC with 7.6 mm creepage, the ADUM5401ARWZ is suitable for applications such as RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 transceivers, industrial field bus isolation, power supply start-up bias and gate drives, isolated sensor interfaces, and industrial PLCs. Special care must be taken during PCB layout to meet emissions standards, and recommendations can be found in application note AN-0971.
