The ADS850Y/250 is a high dynamic range 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) from Texas Instruments with a maximum sampling rate of 10 MSPS. It utilizes a pipelined architecture with a fully differential input that supports both differential and single-ended interfaces over selectable input spans of 2 Vp-p or 4 Vp-p. The device includes digital error correction for 14-bit linearity and a self-calibration procedure that corrects capacitor and gain mismatches.
The ADC provides a typical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 76 dB and a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 85 dB at Nyquist. It operates from a 5 V supply with typical power consumption of 250 mW. The ADS850Y/250 includes an internal reference that can be programmed for a 2 Vp-p input range for best spurious performance, or a 4 Vp-p range for lowest input-referred noise. An external reference can also be used. An over-range indicator flag signals when the input exceeds the full-scale range.
The device is housed in a 48-TQFP package (9 mm × 9 mm) and supports surface mount mounting. It operates over a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. The parallel CMOS/TTL interface provides easy connection to digital systems. Applications include IF and baseband digitization, CCD imaging, scanners, test instrumentation, and IR imaging.
