ADS1253E Description

Short technical summary and product information.

The ADS1253E is a precision, wide dynamic range, delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC) from Texas Instruments. It offers 24-bit resolution with no missing codes and achieves an effective resolution of 19 bits at data rates up to 20 kSPS. The device features four differential input channels, a multiplexed configuration, and an SPI digital interface.

Operating from a single +5V supply (4.75V to 5.25V analog and digital), the ADS1253E consumes only 8 mW at 20 kHz data rate and 5 mW at 10 kHz. It provides an external reference input (0.5V to 5V) and includes 50/60 Hz rejection for improved noise performance. The maximum integral nonlinearity (INL) is 15 ppm, and the RMS noise is 1.8 ppm.

The ADC is housed in a 16-pin SSOP package (16-SSOP, 0.154" width, 3.90mm width) with gull wing terminals, suitable for surface mount assembly. It operates over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Typical applications include cardiac diagnostics, direct thermocouple interfaces, blood analysis, infrared pyrometers, liquid/gas chromatography, and precision process control.
