The ADP8870ACBZ-R7 from Analog Devices is a versatile charge-pump, parallel backlight driver designed for applications requiring precise LED control. It integrates automatic ambient light sensing (ALS) with two high-accuracy phototransistor inputs, enabling power savings by adjusting backlight intensity based on environmental conditions.
This device features 7 independent, programmable LED drivers, with 6 capable of up to 30 mA and one capable of up to 60 mA. A programmable maximum current limit with 128 levels offers fine-grained control. The charge pump supports automatic gain selection of 1x, 1.5x, and 2x for optimal efficiency. Brightness can be controlled via a PWM input, which scales the LED output current, supporting content adaptive brightness control (CABC).
Designed for mobile display and keypad backlighting, as well as general LED indication, the ADP8870ACBZ-R7 operates down to 2.5V with undervoltage lockout at 2.0V. It includes features like short-circuit, overvoltage, and overtemperature protection, internal soft start, and input-to-output isolation during faults. The device communicates via an I2C-compatible interface for all programming.
The ADP8870ACBZ-R7 is supplied in a compact 20-WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package) measuring 1.96x2.36 mm, suitable for space-constrained designs. It supports surface mount installation.
